Dr. Scott Collier is the Faculty Director of the Nationally Competitive Scholarships Program. This new program stems from the effort of Dale Wheeler and the Prestigious Scholarships Program that was founded within the Honors College.

Dr. Collier earned his Ph.D. in Cardiovascular Exercise Science from Syracuse University. He is also recognized as a Fellow in the American College of Sports Medicine.  Collier is a Professor in Exercise Science where he has served as the Program Director and now Graduate Program Director for the last 4 years. Dr. Collier has been elected into the Appalachian State University Cratis D. Williams Graduate Schools Academy of Outstanding Graduate Mentors and has won the Beaver College of Health Sciences Research and Service Awards during his tenure at Appalachian.  

Dr. Collier has over 40 students as co-authors on peer-reviewed published manuscripts and over 80 of his students have presented in Local, Regional and/or National research meetings.  Dr. Collier has published over 40 manuscripts, 3 book chapters, and one monograph. Dr. Collier is the Co-Director of NextGen Health which serves to increase local research collaborations as well as develop research knowledge in cutting-edge healthcare technologies.

Dr. Collier is an adjunct professor for the International Ph.D. program at the University of Rome. He took 13 students to Italy this past summer to learn about the culture and coursework in his field. Collier also developed the Introduction to Exercise Science course and teaches the problem-based AppLab class.
